The Cubs placed left-hander Jon Lester on the 10-day disabled list with tightness in his left side and shoulder fatigue on Friday.

Felix made his major league debut with the Cubs in 2016, his eighth year in the Cubs organization ... originally signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2009 ... Has gone 29-39 with a 3.79 ERA (265 ER/628.2 IP) in 179 career minor league games, including 78 starts ... made his organizational debut in 2009 with the DSL Cubs and in 2016 made his first appearance at both Triple-A and in the majors ... Named a mid-season All-Star in three-straight seasons in the Midwest League (2013), Florida State League (2014) and Southern League (2015) ... Has fanned 560 batters while walking 215 in 628.2 innings of work in the minors ... has appeared in at least 20 games in each of the last five seasons ... A native of the Dominican Republic, Felix signed with the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent March 9, 2009.

2016

Felix made his major league debut, appearing in 11 games with the Cubs ... posted a 4.00 ERA (4 ER/9.0 IP), holding the opposition scoreless in nine of 11 outings ... spent the majority of the season with Triple-A Iowa, going 3-4 with a 3.41 ERA (24 ER/63.1 IP) in 36 outings ... Led the Smokies with 23 starts, 129.2 innings pitched and 140 strikeouts ... Fanned a career-best 10 batters in game one against Birmingham, July 21 ... Recorded a scoreless inning (1.0 IP, SO) in the Southern League All-Star Game ... Went 2-0 with a 1.46 ERA (4 ER/24.2 IP) in the season's opening month and posted a 3.13 ERA (24 ER/69.0 IP) overall in the season's first half ... The right-handed pitcher held lefties to a .218 batting average (45-for-206), while righties hit .241 (66-for-274) ... Felix spent the majority of the season with Single-A Daytona, posting a 3.19 ERA (34 ER/96.0 IP) in 19 starts, including one complete game ... earned his first promotion to the Double-A level ... All told, went 6-10 with a 4.15 ERA (57 ER/123.2 IP) in 25 starts between Daytona and Double-A Tennessee ... Began the season with Daytona and allowed one or zero earned runs in each of his first 11 starts ... allowed 13 earned runs in a two-start stretch June 10-19 and 21 earned runs in his other 17 starts combined with the D-Cubs ... Pitched a season-high 8.0 innings in a complete game effort April 14 at Dunedin, but suffered the loss ... Went 1-5 in April and May despite posting a 1.41 ERA (8 ER/51.0 IP) ... Began the season with Single-A Peoria, appearing in six games before being moved to Single-A Boise where he spent the remainder of the season ... Went 4-2 with a 3.43 ERA (24 ER/63.0 IP) in 15 games (six starts) with the Hawks, striking out 42 batters and walking 22 ...
