Left-hander Brian Duensing, who signed a one-year deal with the Cubs this offseason, was activated off the 10-day disabled list Friday after dealing with lower back tightness during Spring Training.

Carl spent more than three months on the major league roster in 2016, his second year pitching in the big leagues ... made his major league debut in September of 2015 ... acquired from Texas, July 22, 2013, with infielder Mike Olt and pitchers Justin Grimm and Neil Ramirez for pitcher Matt Garza ... originally selected by Texas in the 48th round of the 2011 draft ... Has posted a 3.76 ERA (17 ER/40.2 IP) with two saves in 41-career games with the Cubs dating to 2015 ... As of the end of the 2016 season, he was one of only five active MLB players drafted and signed in the 48th round or later (also, Jake Smith, Vidal Nuño, Jarrod Dyson and Bobby Wilson) ... he is the first to play for the Cubs after being drafted and signed in the 48th round or later since Justin Speier in 1998 (55th round, 1995) ...
